General Information About the department Location The City of Dixon Building Inspection Department is located in the City Hall Building, 600 East A Street, a quarter mile east of the junction of North First Street and A Street. As you enter the main foyer of the City Hall make a right and the Building Department service counter is straight ahead. Hours The Dixon City Hall will be closed the first Friday of each month due to budget issues. The Building Department is open between the hours of 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. Inspections are performed 8:00 am to 1:00 pm Monday through Thursday. There will be no inspections performed on Fridays. The Building Department phone and counter hours are 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. Inspection requests are taken in person at the Building Department counter, or by phone. New Building Department Permit Fees On June 1, 2009, the Building Department will be introducing new permit fees for several types of permits. Residential Re-roof Permits - The flat rate for all residential re-roof permits will be $100 for all re-roof projects plus other fees (Periodic General Plan Update, Building Standards Commission, and Strong Motion) based on valuation (average permit fee is $105.00 total). Commercial Sign Permits - The Building fee for commercial signs shall be a flat fee of $60 plus the Commercial Electrical Permit cost ($25.00) if illuminated. Temporary Power Pole Permits - A standard fee of $10 per pole will be added to the $25 Electrical Permit cost. All Other Valuation Based Permits - A new fee for the "Periodic General Plan Update" will be added to all permits that use the construction valuation to determine the cost of the permit. The fees will be based on the total construction cost for the project. An amount of $1.00 will be charged for every $1,000 of valuation.
ACCESIBILITY COMPLAINT PROCEDURE - General Information Accessibility complaints concerning, either public or private property, shall be submitted to the City of Dixon Building Department either in person, by mail, fax, or e-mail on the approved form. As an option, the complainant may remain anonymous. Please provide as much information as possible about the ploblem to assist in our evaluation of the reported violation. Within 7 days, the Building Department will formally acknowledge receipt of the complaint to the complainant. An initial permit history review will be researched by the Building Department to determine age of building, remodel history and valuation of projects. This review will futher determine applicability of Title 24 based upon new construction or remodeling performed since 1982 for Title 24 and 1969 for American Standards association standard. The Building Department will conduct an initial survey within 21 days to determine whether the problem is an actual violation of the California Building Code accessibility standards. The California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 24, results of this initial survey will be provided to you via telephone, or e-mail contact. Once validated, complaints are mandated to be resolved within 90-days from the initial survey date. Be aware that the above mentioned 90-days resolution process shall be in one of the following forms: 1. "The code violation has been corrected; or 2. A binding agreement has been reached with the owner to complete any construction necessary to correct the violation within a determined reasonable time; or 3. The Building Official (City of Dixon) has instituted legal action to compel the owner to correct the violation." (Reference document: Office of Attorney General, letter dated April 29, 2002.)
