A Business License is required for any endeavor for a profit or livelihood conducted within the city limits of Dixon. It is also required for businesses operated from a residence. Applications for a Business License, Home Occupation Permit, or other permits may be obtained at City Hall, 600 East A Street, Dixon, CA 95620. Upon completion, submit the application and any applicable fees to the Finance Department at City Hall. The typical license is approximately $150 annually. The application will be routed through various departments for approval. Food Service Application will also require approval from the Solano County Health Department. Contact the Environmental Health Division of Solano County Health Department of Environmental Management at (707) 421-6770. Approved licenses will be mailed to the business within approximately three weeks. Business Licenses requiring additional approvals may take longer.
As of January 1, 1992, AB1576 requires that anyone applying for issuance or renewal of a business license must provide a valid, current Certificate of Worker’s Compensation Insurance or complete a certificate of Exemption. A Home Occupation Permit is required for conducting a business in residential districts. This permit is limited to those uses which may be conducted within a residential dwelling without any customer traffic, and without changing appearance or conditions of the residence and neighborhood. Any business using a residential address or phone as the business address or phone must have a Home Occupation Permit. This permit requires a one time $150 fee. Neighboring residents within 300 feet of the property will be notified of applications for Home Occupation Permits and public notice will be printed in the local newspaper.
Un requested door-to-door solicitation of residences is prohibited in the City of Dixon by the City Code.
Check with the Planning Division of the Community Development Department at (707) 678-7000 to ensure that the proposed business is a permitted land use in your zoning district. at (707) 678-7000 to Some uses require a Conditional Use Permit approved by the Planning Commission. Also check with the Planning Department for all information and approvals necessary for signs.
The Building Inspection section of the Community Development Departments reviews Business License Applications and may conduct an inspection of the facility. The Fire Department also reviews Business License Applications and may conduct an inspection of the facility to determine the fire protection requirements for your business.
